Brian Larson completed B.Mus. , High Distinction at McGill University, as a student of Mauricio Fuks and Tom Williams, leading to a full scholarship to pursue a Master’s Degree at the University of Montreal, and additional studies with Gwen Thompson, Vladimir Landsman, Jean- Jacques Kantorow, & Taras Gabora. Since 1989, he has been performing in over 3500 concerts: 1st violinist with Vancouver Symphony & Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra; solo recital tours; studio recordings and concerts with major film and pop music stars, including: (Canada) Nickelback, Bryan Adams, Shania Twain, Celine Dion, (USA/EU) Smokey Robinson, YES, The Cranberries, Moody Blues, Andrea Bocelli, Sarah Brightman, and (Hong Kong) Eason Chan. Brian is a frequent chamber musician, playing string trios, quartets and piano trios, as well as jazz combinations. He is also an avid string quartet arranger and electric violinist.
In addition to performances, he has been teaching constantly over the past 25 years and developing technical systems along the lines of Mauricio Fuks’ teaching, and Canadian pedagogues Gwen Thompson and Gerald Stanick. Brian is regularly invited as a teacher and adjudicator at festivals throughout Asia, with thousands of hours of pedagogy experience and a very clear system for building young players, as well as coaching other teachers. He has compiled and notated many of his own exercises and technical studies from years of studies with top coaches, which are now passed on to his own students. He is a co-creator of the Personal Pianist accompaniment practice software. On top of these : He has served as Vice President of OCSM (Org. of Canadian Symphony Musicians) and Chairman of Orchestra Musician’s Councils due to his leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
